This toolkit is based on lessons learned from extant research and from leaders in community colleges, industry, and intermediaries (such as chambers of commerce and community based organizations).
Summary of Toolkit Approach
The author organized this toolkit in three chapters:
- Creating a navigator for industry partners. This chapter explains how identifying a liaison (or many) to develop relationships with local employers can help potential partners explore working with a college. It also outlines common characteristics of effective liaisons.
- Key characteristics of productive partnerships. This chapter outlines how to develop a common purpose among partners from different types of institutions.
- Practical steps for building relationships between colleges and industries. This chapter defines the role of leadership at a college in maintaining transparency and reciprocal dialogue among partners at other institutions.
